8-26-16 Micro-story (prompt word: delighted)

“Please let his Excellency know I would be delighted to attend,” Simone Devereaux studied her reflection in the vanity mirror as she ended the call. She chose a lipstick and applied it carefully.
“Tell me, honestly, Davis.” She called into the other room. “Am I getting too old for this?”
“You are perfection, as always, my love,” her husband strode into the bedroom of their Grande Hotel suite and pressed a kiss to the top of her head. He trailed his lips toward her rosebud mouth.
“No, no,” she admonished. “The next kiss is for His Excellency.”
“Cyanide?” He asked.
“Belladonna.”
“But of course.”

(I hope you enjoyed this morning’s story. I write these micro-stories from a prompt word in one minute. I can edit as much as I want after the one minute but the bones have to be there before the alarm rings. This one took a good bit to edit. I did this same, “micro-story a day” skill-building project in 2010. It revolutionized my writing and prompt the development of my “Flash Your Fiction” workshop for writers. To see the stories from that project, go here.”
