The Power of Visual Cues: My Secret to Staying on Track
Sometimes, when you’re creating, you need a guiding light. You need a signpost that represents what you’re working towards. Some people keep it in their minds, but I need something more tangible or visual. I have post-it notes all over my apartment that inspire and encourage me. I’ll now have this image sitting above my computer at my desk to remind me what I’m going for with this book.
This is *not* a cover reveal. But the amazing Magdalena created this image as a possible cover for Die By The Sword, book one in this series. We didn’t use it, but she gave me permission to use it in other ways. I added to it (with her permission) to make it my guiding light for book 2 in the series. Notice the cards at the bottom are in the Cups suit not the swords suit.
I read from this work in progress at the Sisters In Crime NY/Tri-State Chapter open mic last night, and the itch to write it got me good. So, I’m putting it out there that this is the next writing project. Am I still working on Seoul Song (the musical)? Yes. But for straight writing, it’s book 2 in this series.
Things to think about:
1. Inspiration. Use what inspires you not what works for others.
2. Accountability. Put your goals out there and invite partners to keep you honest.
3. Celebrate each win, no matter how small, and then get back to work. No one will tell your story but you.
