I don’t often write poems, but this one flew out of me. I might need to rearrange two of the lines but for right now, here it is.
When: Or How To Be A Grown-Up
By Izolda Trakhtenberg
When you’re wrong, admit it.
When you’re right, be right but don’t be smug.
When you’ve learned something new, acknowledge it.
When someone taught it to you, acknowledge her/him.
When you know something, stick to your guns.
When you feel something, express it.
When you believe in something, stand tall.
When you are afraid, feel the fear and then do it anyway.
When you lose, be gracious.
When you win, be gracious.
When the time is wrong, breathe and wait.
When the time is right, do your thing.
When you want to sing, sing.
When you want to dance, dance.
When you need a hug, open your arms.
When you want love, open your heart.
